Three minute speech
Good afternoon teachers and fellow classmates today I will be talking about the topic The US should have shown mercy toward Osama bin Laden by imprisoning him rather than killing him. All of us know about Osama bin laden. He was the mastermind of the September 11th attacks on the world trade center which led to the deaths of more than 2000 innocent civilians. On the 2nd of May 2011 the US launched an attack which managed to finally kill Osama bin laden after more than 10 years playing hide and seek with him. Back in the USA the entire country rejoiced after the news of his death was reported in the country. However, some people think that the US should have spared bin laden and let him stay in prison for life. I feel that this view will not go well with the citizens of the USA, especially the loved ones of those who perished in the 9/11 attacks. Imagine you are the child of your father who died in the 9/11 attacks and had wanted the US to find the mastermind of the attacks, after more than 10 years the killer is finally found and captured, would you want him to be spared and stay in jail forever? You would be thinking that he should suffer like your loved ones did and he should be executed so that justice will be done. There may also be many problems if the US decides to spare bin laden and keep him in prison, the most dangerous one is that bin laden might find a way to escape and the whole hide and seek game would be reset and the terrors of the al Qaeda would return in full force. In conclusion I feel that the US was right not to have shown mercy toward Osama bin laden. Thank you.
I agree to you to a certain extent. I agree to a certain extent because I feel that mercy can be implemented at some point of time. For example the Iranian woman who got blinded and disfigured by a man showed mercy to him and demanded for money instead of blinding him in a "an eye for an eye" trial, because "an eye for an eye" makes the world goes blind. But when it comes to Osama bin Laden, I feel that he should be killed for the number of innocent lives he had not spared and he should be killed immediately because he is a high value target, is difficult to find and is highly dangerous.
